In January 2027, I’m starting an experiment: one completely new experience every month, plus one bigger challenge outside my comfort zone each quarter. Twelve chances to be a beginner in public; four chances to make that substantially more complicated.
This is not a plan to reinvent myself, discover my one true purpose, or emerge from December with suspiciously excellent posture. It’s a year of curiosity: trying something unfamiliar because it sounds interesting, slightly ridiculous, or both.
The experiment hasn’t started yet, so there are no adventures to report, costs to tally, or triumphant lessons to frame above a desk. The 2027 calendar is still ahead. When each experience happens, I’ll write about what I expected, what actually happened, what surprised me, what I learned, and what it cost. There will also be an honest verdict—and whether I’d do it again.
Some attempts may bring small victories. Some may involve an awkward moment that refuses to leave my memory. Spectacular failure remains an entirely plausible outcome; no graceful landing has been promised.
If you have a suggestion for something new to try, send it to Dare Me, Mayhapsibly. I can’t promise to say yes. I can promise to consider it with the appropriate combination of curiosity and concern.
